Step 1:Create a topology like this,

I am going to setup a virtual LAN 10.0.0.0 Network in router R1 and 30.0.0.0 Network in router R2 by using 'no keepalive' command for the interface fastethernet.Keep alive command will check the device that connected to interfaces every 10 seconds.If the device is in down state then router interface line protocol will goes to down state.If we use 'no keepalive' command it wont check for the status of device, so router interface always will be kept in up state. 
 
 
 
Step 2:Configure ip address to interfaces in routers like i have given in a topology. 
 
First I am going to give the command 'show ip interface brief' in privileged mode to check what 
type interfaces i got in router by default.

We can see that the line protocol of interface fastethernet 0/0 is down because it is not connected to any device.Now i am going to give 'no keepalive' command to the interface fastethernet0/0 to stop checking for the device connected for that interface,then this interface will be come up and always kept up until we re-enable 'keepalive' on that interface.

Step 3:Now,enable dynamic routing protocol rip on R1 and R2.

R1(config-router)#exit 
 
In router R2 global config mode, 
 
R2(config)#router rip

Step 4:Now i am going to ping 30.0.0.1 from router R1.Before we ping give this command 'debug ip packet' in privileged mode on R1. 
 
 
R1#ping 30.0.0.1

Step 2:Configure Head Office router and Branch Office router with ip address and make sure serial interface encapsulation that connected to FRSW is 'frame relay' on both Head office and Branch office router.

This is the maximum traffic rate decided by the physical interface using clock rate command or by frame relay service provider. 
 
 
Min CIR - Minimum Comitted Information Rate 
 
This is the minimum traffic rate the router speed will drop down when congestion occurs on a frame relay network.Min CIR is half of the speed in a CIR. 
 
 
DE -Discard Eligible 
 
A bit that is set for traffic sent above the CIR will be Discard Eligible (DE). 
 
 
BC-Commited Burst 
 
The amount of bits sent during a specific interval,measured as Time committed(Tc).Time Committed is measured in milliseconds(default is 125ms 8 intervals per second). 
 
CIR=Bc X 1000/Tc 
 
 
BE-Excess Burst 
 
Bits that exceeding the committed burst is Excess Burst(BC) and it is marked a Discard Eligible.

In this post we are going to see how to configure Frame Relay with Routing Protocols using cisco router as frame relay switch in GNS3.

Do all configurations except static routing(i.e. is step 6).Instead of Static routing we are going to configure dynamic with any routing protocols from this RIP,IGRP,OSPF and EIGRP.I am going to use RIP-Routing Information Protocols. 
 
Before that do this small modification in Ho Router,stop the split horizon service in serial sub interfaces so that routing updates can be sent through same interface from where it was received.Split Horizon won't allow to sent back the routing updates on the same interface that was received .
